This 5 Days Gorilla And Chimpanzee Trekking Safari can be carried out throughout the year however, due to the muddy environment caused in the National parks during wet seasons, gorilla trekking is highly done in two seasons; June to September and December to January. These are marked as the high seasons but never the less you can still do this 5 Days Gorilla And Chimpanzee Trekking Safari   in the other months of the year marked us the low seasons. Facts about Mountain Gorillas you should know:
Mountain Gorillas are an endangered species with a growing population over the 20 past years, however, they live a long life span with a slow breeding rate. There are 1063 gorillas in the world according to statistics carried out in 2019. Half of this population of mountain gorillas is found in Uganda whereas the rest of the population is shared between Rwanda and Congo. Mountain Gorillas cannot survive in sanctuaries and zoos, thats why to see the mountain gorillas of Africa, you ave to embark on this 5 Days Gorilla And Chimpanzee Trekking Safari to trek them to their habitats.

The discovery of mountain gorillas happened in Rwanda first with German colony Captain von Berenge together with his friends who happened to be mountaineering Mount Sabinyo on the side of Rwanda. At 9300 foot-level, they spotted the gentle lads but due to fright, they shot 2 and retrieved one. The one retrieved was a young-male that weighed about 220 pounds, but at its size it was larger than all apes the Germans had ever seen.  The Bones and skin of the gorillas were transferred to Berlin and tests were carried which acknowledged the species as mountain gorillas. This changed history as the time since gorillas had never been imagined to stay in a high and colder environment contradictory to West -Africa.  This news followed many hunters to the regions who shot many of them during this time, these hunters concentrated more in Congo. A record was made by Prince Wilhelm from Sweden who happened to shot over 14 gorillas during the expedition in a period of one year ( 1920-1921)
With immense brutal hunts at that moment, responsible campaigns Were staged in preservation of the remaining mountain gorillas, first were the Belgians who launched a Mountain Gorilla preservation’s program and later were followed by the English staged their preservation campaign in Uganda. For several years no one was allowed to receive visitors to see these Mountain Gorillas in Uganda which was part of the strike to conserve the remaining gorillas with in the regions.
Later on Within Kisoro, Walter Baumgärtel seeked permission to host tourists to his accommodation (Travelers Rest Inn) and here, he was able to write a book “Up among the mountain Gorillas” about his thrilling encounters with the giant lads. The beautiful accommodation as of today is still in existence and is open to travellers Prominent personalities such as Dian Fossey and George Schaller lived there on a frequent basis.You may have encountered gorillas in a zoo before, these are a different species known as lowlands gorillas of western Africa,  research has it that the mountain gorillas  a subspecies known as Gorilla beringei beringei, however, further on going research has it that mountain gorillas could be a different species of it own .

Transfer to Kibale National Park

Early morning after breakfast, you will be briefed upon your 5 Days Gorilla And Chimpanzee Trekking Safari by our guide before embarking on the journey to Kibale national park. the park is located in western Uganda and is one of the greatest rainforests in Uganda, a home to several primate families of chimpanzees and Columbus monkeys among others. Day 2

Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp

Early in the morning after taking breakfast, you go to the park headquarters for pre-trek briefing about chimpanzee trekking. You will the proceed to trek the chimpanzees which are located by listening to their hooting calls, enjoy the 3 hours with the primates and others like the Columbus monkeys, grey checked manga-bey, red tailed monkeys, bush babies and many bird species. After this delightful experience, return to the Lodge for relaxation, in the afternoon, set out for a walk in the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary with an opportunity to see a diversity of bird life, flora and fauna. Return to accomodation for dinner and overnight stay

Day 3

Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable forest

Early morning after breakfast, embark a 5hrs journey to Bwindi impenetrable forest, home of half of the world’s population of mountain gorillas. The drive passes through scenic views of alternating hills and valley and further through the ‘Switzerland of Africa’. Arrive at accommodation late afternoon to check in for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4

Gorilla trekking

Early in the morning after your breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for pre-trek briefing, you will assemble in groups of eight just before the 3hours guided trek in search for the habituated gorilla families, while trekking, you will also view various bird species and primate making your gorilla tracking experience very memorable. After the trekking, you will head back to the accommodation for Lunch and later on, you may choose to visit the Batwa community to encounter live dances, stories and culture of the local forest people.

Day 5

Return to Kampala

Enjoy early breakfast under the calm environment of Bwindi forest then after you will checkout to start on your journey back to Kampala. You will have lunch enroute with possible stops at the equator to take photos, you will reach Kampala late afternoon where our guide will drop you off at your hotel or airport to catch your flight
